{"id":779,"date":"2011-08-19T07:41:29","date_gmt":"2011-08-19T06:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/monsoon-meandering.winchcombe.org\/?p=779"},"modified":"2011-08-29T08:04:30","modified_gmt":"2011-08-29T07:04:30","slug":"amy-lakshmi-the-elephant-having-a-wash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/monsoon-meandering.winchcombe.org\/index.php\/posts\/779\/amy-lakshmi-the-elephant-having-a-wash","title":{"rendered":"Amy: Lakshmi the Elephant Having A Wash"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_151\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-151\" class=\"size-full wp-image-151\" src=\"https:\/\/monsoon-meandering.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/lakshmiwashing.JPG\" alt=\"Lakshmi the Elephant Having A Wash\" width=\"400\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-151\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lakshmi the Elephant Having A Wash<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This morning we had a great experience: we went to the bathing ghats to watch Lakshmi the Elephant from the nearby temple have a wash and a good scrub.<\/p>\n<p>At 7am I got woken up by the sound of Daddy&#8217;s voice, he was saying to get clothes on quickly so we could go and watch the Elephant have a bath and it possibly started at 7:30a.m. but we didn&#8217;t know, in fact no-one knew.<\/p>\n<p>We walked to the river to wait for the event to start but we didn&#8217;t even have a clue where. So we didn&#8217;t know what time it was, or where it would be, but we knew it would happen somewhere, somewhen.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually we found where it was due to happen but we still had an hour to wait, I could have had so much more sleep!<\/p>\n<p>Someone told us that Lakshmi was coming out of the temple soon so we went to investigate and found Lakshmi. He &#8211; or was it a she? &#8211; was colossal and towered above me. At first I was scared to touch him in case he stepped on me but gradually I overcame my fear and followed Emilia&#8217;s lead.<\/p>\n<p>Lakshmi moved off towards the ghats &#8211; which are steps that leading down to the river and below the waterline and people wash there &#8211; and walked down the ghats to the river below. <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monsoon-meandering.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/lakshmiwashing (1).jpg\" alt=\"Lakshmi walking down to the river\" \/><br \/>\nLakshmi walking down to the river<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monsoon-meandering.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/lakshmiwashing (2).jpg\" alt=\"Lakshmi being washed\" \/><br \/>\nLakshmi being washed<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monsoon-meandering.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/lakshmiwashing (3).jpg\" alt=\"The Mahout gets to work\" \/><br \/>\nThe Mahout gets to work\n<\/p>\n<p>He then laid down as his Mahout &#8211; the name of an elephant keeper &#8211; directed him.
