Pillars in Orchha's Sheesh Mahal
Orchha is a gem of a place for anyone who loves historical buildings, especially if you prefer them looking authentic, pre-restoration. Its Sheesh Mahal is a large palace to the north of the town that has commanding views over the lush, green surrounding countryside. The upper domes of the palace are home to vultures that fly majestically through the air before landing on the upper most domes to claim their throne.

Hi Kev,
I am going to Orchha in a couple of weeks and looking at your pics now Im really considering staying there…looks great
The thing is that after reading other comments of recent visitors I am a little bit discouraged…
Whats your opinion about the quality/service of the Hotel?
Thanks!
Just realized you stayed with the locals!
greetings
Hi Simon, yes we stayed with two local families at Ganj, a short walk from Orchha. It’s organised by http://www.orchha.org and I can’t recommend the experience highly enough. Check out others’ views on TripAdvisor.
After staying there for two nights we stayed at the Betwa Retreat in one of their heritage tents for one night. We really loved that place too, it’s right by the river, very close to the cenotaphs and river crossing.
We ate at the Sheesh Mahal and the food is exactly the same as the Betwa Retreat as they’re both MPTDC resorts. I checked out a room there and it was okay but nothing special.
